Van Dusen Gardens
Within a stone’s throw of downtown Vancouver lies Van Dusen Gardens, a world-class botanical garden. The majestic evergreens throughout the site pre-date the garden, and the gardens have evolved around them. Paved pathways lead to wonderful plant groups including hollies (the largest collection in Canada), bamboos, magnolias, rhododendrons and azaleas which, in late spring, attracts visitors from all over. You’ll find various theme gardens within Van Dusen’s 55-acres, including large formal and informal perennial borders, a children’s garden, rose and lakeside gardens.
H.R. MacMillan Space Centre
Choose from a galaxy of presentations, from star finding and children’s shows to dazzling laser light and astronomy shows in the Star Theatre. The Cosmic Courtyard includes hands-on exhibits, space artifacts, and interpretive videos and computer games to travel the solar system, dock the shuttle, touch a real moon rock, visit the International Space Station and morph yourself into an alien.
Dr. San Yat Sen Gardens
It’s hard to imagine such serenity could exist amidst Vancouver’s bustling Chinatown, but these gardens are a walled treasure of tranquility. Named for the founder of the first Chinese republic who visited Vancouver many times, Dr. San Yat Sen Gardens is the first (and to date, only) garden of its kind to be created outside of China.
